1. An Introduction to Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics

Dr. Zhentang Zhao (Director of SINAP, and Chief Scientist of SHINE Project)

The Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP), founded in 1959, is one of the 100 institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It currently engages in a broad program of civil nuclear science and technology, including particle accelerators, photon science, advanced nuclear energy and interdisciplinary studies. Through developing and operating accelerator light source facilities, such as Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) and its Phase-II Beamlines, Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser test and user facilities (SXFEL), and Shanghai HIgh repetition rate XFEL aNd Extreme light facility (SHINE), SINAP actively supports and facilitates frontier research in various fields. By undertaking the CAS pioneering project on Thorium Molten Salt Reactor (TMSR), it explores new solutions of future nuclear energy technology to address national and global needs. In addition, SINAP performs cutting-edge interdisciplinary research on nuclear physics, physical biology and water science. This presentation will give a brief account of the history, the present status and future outlook of SINAP.

2. SHINE Project Overview and Schedule

Dr. Dong Wang (Deputy Director of SHINE project)

SHINE (Shanghai HIgh repetition rate XFEL aNd Extreme light facility) is a new project at Shanghai, China. It includes a hard X-ray free electron laser and an 100PW intense laser facilities with overall length of 3.1km. The XFEL part consists of an 8GeV cw linac and 3 undulator lines to cover a wide range of photons energy 0.4-25keV. There are 10 end-stations located at two experimental halls to serve different scientific users. The project had its groundbreaking on April, 2018. This talk will give a general introduction about the SHINE project.
