概要

In this seminar I present an overview of top quark physics and an outlook to future progress. I review the impressive progress in measurements of top quark properties and interactions at the LHC. The seminar highlights a few key examples, such as the measurement of the top quark mass, of the top quark Yukawa coupling and of its couplings to electro-weak gauge bosons. For these key measurements I compare today’s precision and the progress expected in the high-luminosity phase of the LHC with the potential of new high-energy e+e- and proton-proton colliders. In all these cases, the combination of e+e- and pp colliders can enhance our understanding of the top quark very significantly, improving the precision by an order of magnitude. The results of these precision measurements are translated into stringent bounds on physics beyond the Standard Model at scales up to tens of TeV using the model-independent framework offered by effective-field theory.
