概要
The primary goal of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study is a 100 TeV proton collider in a new 100 km tunnel (FCC-hh). It also comprises the designs of a high-luminosity electron-positron collider (FCC-ee), operating in a range of centre-of-mass energies between 90 and 365 GeV ? serving as a Z, W, Higgs and top factories ? as a possible first step, and an electron-hadron collider option (FCC-he), whose electrons would come from a 60 GeV Energy Recovery Linac. The study also includes the design of a High-Energy LHC (HE-LHC), based on FCC-hh magnet technology, operating at approximately twice the energy of the present LHC. An FCC Conceptual Design Report covering all collider options and their particle-physics potential will be delivered by the end of 2018.
In this seminar I will report the present baseline designs of FCC-hh, FCC-ee, FCC-he, and HE-LHC, along with the collaboration status, implementation scenarios, plus tentative time lines for construction and (staged) operation.
Recently several novel schemes for low-emittance muon-beam production have been proposed, such as positron annihilation and the "Gamma Factory" concept. I will sketch how, making use of such innovative schemes, the FCC could eventually be upgraded into a highest-energy muon collider.
