概要
High energy electron elastic scattering measurements, in which the target remains intact after the collisions, have been used to study the time-averaged structure of protons, neutrons, and atomic nuclei since the 1950s. However, similar measurements of neutrinos scattering from protons had never been performed until our recent measurement in the MINERvA experiment. This might seem surprising given that the structure measured in such an experiment is physically interesting, is difficult to calculate, and is important for applications in neutrino physics. I’ll discuss the technical challenges of making such a measurement using neutrinos, what we have found by making it, and future prospects.
