概要

Title: “Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) upgrades, built-up experience and achievements”
Within the LHC Injectors Upgrade project, the PSB has been upgraded tomeet the requirements of the High Luminosity LHC. A new wideband RFsystem has been designed, based on solid-state amplifiers. The widebandfrequency response (1~MHz to 18~MHz) covers all the required frequencyschemes in the PSB, allowing multi-harmonics operation. The system isbased on a cellular configuration in which each cell provides a fractionof the total RF voltage. The installation of the 3 systems has beenperformed during the Long Shutdown 2 and the commissioning started laterin 2020. The presentation will cover the RF system, commissioningchallenges, system modifications, and operational results over the years.

Title: “A power amplifier based on rad-hard Gallium Nitride (GaN) FETs for the 10MHz cavities of the CERN Proton Synchrotron”
In order to meet the beam performance requirements of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) in the CERN Proton Synchrotron(PS), it is crucial to reduce the cavity impedance for high-intensitycirculating beams. To achieve this goal, it is essential to replace thecurrent technology and increase the fast feedback gain around the 10 MHzcavities. As part of the transition towards solid-state, radiation-hardamplifier technology, prototypes of 1 kW and 400 W modular poweramplifiers based on GaN technology have been developed and are currentlyundergoing testing. The FETs have been qualified for radiation in J-PARCand they will undergo additional irradiation time in the PS tunnel atCERN to additionally qualify the amplifier in its entirety. Thepresentation provides insights into the modeling phase, the challengesfaced during prototyping, and the current status of the project.
