Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies
In the Institutes of Particle and Nuclear Studies, we have investigated a wide range of research field on the particle and nuclear physics both with the experimental and theoretical approaches. Our activity further includes development of new experimental devices, methods, application studies, and related physics research using a variety of particle beams (e.g., the colliding-beam accelerator and the high intensity proton accelerator).

Institute of Materials Structure Science
At the Institute of Materials Structure Science, we pursue leading-edge research, not only in physics but also in chemistry, biology, engineering, and medical and agricultural sciences. We use a variety of advanced beams, including synchrotron light, neutron and muon, which have been developed as our particle accelerators have evolved. By advancing the technology of beam production and utilization we provide tools essential for the progress of materials science.

Applied Research Laboratory
The Applied Research Laboratory provides high-level engineering support for research projects that use largeaccelerators. We perform fundamental research on radiation and environmental safety, computers, superconductivity andcryogenics, ultra-high precision mechanical technology and any other field required to support the researchers who useour facilities, as well as initiating our own research.
We perform operational and maintenance work on radiation andenvironmental safety, computers and networks, we supply liquid helium, and our machine shop uses state-of-the-arttechnology. To provide these research and development services, four centers are available.

International Center for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe and Particles (WPI-QUP)
The International Center for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe and Particles (QUP) was newly founded as a center at KEK in December 2021. It is the 14th World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). QUP aims to bring a new “eye” to humanity with measurement science. QUP will invent and develop new systems for measuring quantum fields, bring innovation in cosmological observations and particle experiments, to help us understand the origins of this beautiful world (the true nature of space-time and matter), and to have wide-ranging social applications.
