The 6th TRIUMF-KEK Scientific Symposium was held on January 29 and 30, 2025 at the KEK Tsukuba campus. It was the first symposium with the current management members from both institutions since the last symposium which was held in December 2017. There were over 50 researchers in attendance, led by Dr. Nigel Smith, Executive Director & CEO of TRIUMF Inc. and Dr. Shoji Asai, Director General of KEK.
This symposium has been regularly held alternately at KEK and TRIUMF since the “Japan-Canada 80th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Particle Accelerator Science Symposium” in 2008, serving as an official communication platform between the institutions.
At the symposium, the leaders from both institutions made reports on the status and prospects of research activities at their own institutions. The researchers from each institution reported on their collaboration related to the particle physics experiments using muons, the material science, neutrinos, accelerators technologies, and nuclear physics. At the sessions for each research field, they discussed the future cooperation between the institutions.
During the directorate meeting between the executives of both institutions, they confirmed the prospects for further collaboration and signed a memorandum defining the cooperation for the next five years.
