The Wednesday Night Science Cafe, organized by Tsukuba Science Tour Office, is held every Wednesday. This event provides an opportunity to casually enjoy science together with the researchers from various institutions in Tsukuba City.

On Wednesday, January 15, Associate Professor Daniel Jeans from KEK Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies presented a lecture titled “Let’s make a Higgs Factory! – Unraveling the mysteries of the universe.” The facilitator was Mr. Eiji Yamamura, CEO of SynCom Agritech Co., Ltd.. Over 40 people attended in total, both in-person and online.

Associate Professor Daniel Jeans explained the concept of “elementary particles,” the most fundamental building blocks of matter. Using illustrations, he described their various types and characteristics. He focused particularly on the Higgs boson, an elementary particle that makes particles heavy, discussing the mysteries surrounding it. He emphasized the necessity of a “Higgs Factory,” a particle accelerator designed to produce and study Higgs bosons to unravel these mysteries.

The Wednesday Night Science Cafe will continue to be held weekly until Wednesday, March 5th, at co-en in the Tsukuba Center Building, just a 3-minute walk from Tsukuba Station. Online streaming is also available on YouTube.
