The Asian Forum for Accelerators and Detectors “AFAD 2021” was held from March 16 (Tue.) to 18 (Thu.).

AFAD is a forum established in 2011 for the further development of collaboration and cooperation within the Asia-Oceania region in the fields of accelerator/detector and their related technologies/applications.

Last year, the Forum was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this time 204 participants from 8 countries/regions attended.

In this forum, the status of projects in each country was presented in the plenary session, and the working group activities are reported in the following parallel sessions; photon science (WG1), hadron/neutron science (WG5), detector R&D (WG2), innovative accelerator technology (WG4), industrial/medical application (WG3), computing/network (WG6), cryogenics/superconductivity (WG7).

AFAD has gone around the Asia-Oceania region so far, however, due to the fact that international travel is still not possible, the host country, Russia, took the lead in holding the forum online for the first time.

This successful workshop ended with the official announcement that the next AFAD 2022 would be hosted by Australia.

The number of participants for each working group and country/region is shown in the table below.
