Overview

For a large-scale proton or ion accelerator, beam physics is most complicated in the low- and medium-energy part. Especially for the ADS (Accelerator-Driven-System) application, the challenges become more significant due to the required extremely high reliability. This talk will introduce the design and construction of the front-end linac dedicated to the European pilot plant for the ADS demonstration, MYRRHA. Some beam test results of the constructed RFQ and CH cavities will be presented. To improve the frequency jump of the MYRRHA linac, novel solutions using 704.4 MHz RFQ and CH cavities have been proposed. Due to the relatively small spatial dimensions, the additive manufacturing (3D-printing) technology is being investigated for the realization of such very high frequency cavities. The recent R&D highlights and potential applications will be discussed.
