概要

We comment on the historical importance of understanding intrabeamscattering for the successful operation of a wide variety of accelerators, including Fermilab's Accumulator and Tevatron that led to the discovery of the top quark, CERN's Large Hadron Collider with its discovery of the Higgsboson, electron damping rings such as KEK's Accelerator Test Facility, and modern synchrotron light sources that are transforming many disciplines. Historical details will be provided on the involvement of Anton Piwinski, James Bjorken and the speaker in developing the theoretical description ofintrabeam scattering. In particular, we provide a detailed narrative on howwe got involved in this work and the outcomes of our research. We furthercomment on the speaker's efforts to enhance light source in developing countries and how intrabeam scattering is related to that work.
