Radiation generated during the operation of high energy accelerator has several features; it has wide variety of energy and particle, it has strong penetration power, other particle is produced in interaction, and small amount of activity is produced. For the purpose of radiation safety control of high energy accelerator, Radiation Science Center administrates and operates facilities and apparatus to develop and to calibrate many kinds of radiation detector. Also, Radiation Science Center administrates and operates facilities and apparatus for chemical safety. The facilities and apparatus are used for many purposes such as chemical environmental safety, chemical analysis to manufacture accelerator parts, and analysis of cooling water which is used for accelerator operation. And also chemical analyses of many kind of samples in response to requests from various research groups in KEK are carried out.
