X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) stations

Investigate local structure and chemical state of non-crystalline materials

Fluorescent XAFS equipment (19-element Ge-SSD). (BL-12C)

Summary

X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) is useful technique for investigating the local structure and chemical state of elements. XAFS experiment requires wide-range energy scanning, so synchrotron radiation which can provides continuous energy (white) X-ray is suitable light source for XAFS experiment. XAFS experiment is suitable for structural analyzing of materials without long-range order such as nanoparticles, amorphous materials. Very dilute sample (minimum is a few hundred ppm) can also be measured with fluorescence mode.

XAFS measurement of living plants with fluorescence mode. (BL-12C)
