Lecture:Hadrons within an effective model: Properties and interactions.


QCD as the theory of quarks and gluons is the underlying theory of the
hadronic world. However, QCD is not analytically solvable in the low and
intermediate energy regimes. While chiral perturbation theories can be
applied at low energies, for intermediate energies one needs to use
effective models.
In my talk I will present an effective model of QCD (the so-called
extended linear sigma model ) which includes (pseudo-)scalar and
(axial-)vector mesons as well as spin 1/2 baryons. The model implements
two important symmetries of QCD, namely the chiral symmetry and dilatation
symmetry together with their spontaneous and explicit breaking.
The extended linear sigma model turns out to be very successful in
describing the mass and decay widths of the included mesons up to N_f=4
and was also successfully applied to study scattering processes of
I will highlight the main results of the model and discuss planned future
extensions and studies which can be measured experimentally.
